I was initially drawn to the combination of science, medicine, design, and artistry that dentistry requires. Having family in medicine and dentistry allowed me to experience what it was like to be a dentist.
I value the time I get to spend with each patient and enjoy learning about their lives and experiences. My primary goal is to understand each patients unique desires and concerns and then design a treatment solution that’s perfect for them.

The field has undergone remarkable changes since I started practicing in Santa Barbara in 1992. For patients, this means more effective, efficient, and comfortable procedures, as well as longevity of the work we do.
I keep up to date with new innovations in dentistry through participation in the Santa Barbara Dental Study Club, where I learn with and from my peers, as well as oral healthcare specialists. I am also a member of the California Dental Association and the Santa Barbara-Ventura County Dental Society.
Through these organizations I attend meetings, lectures, and seminars, as well as reading and staying up to date on their many publications on new research findings and therapeutic discussions.
BEYOND THE PRACTICE
I am a fourth-generation native of Santa Barbara and grew up here on the Mesa. I have my lovely wife, Jill Petersen, and kids, Henry and Anna, who are my priority outside of the office. Gardening, supporting my kids, and trying to get some exercise take up most of my time outside the office but I make time to get in the water and go surfing, diving, and fishing.
